I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of home organization TV shows! I’m not entirely sure how helpful it is to binge a few episodes, though—because I always end up wanting to toss everything I own or buy a bunch of storage bins I probably don’t need. Still, there’s something so satisfying about seeing a space that’s beautiful, peaceful and organized.
Have you ever thought about why that is?

What drives women and moms to have a beautiful and peaceful home?
Now I know some of you might not be a SAH. I do not condemn whatsoever women who decide to work outside the home by any means. I think every woman follows her heart as best she can and does God’s work wherever He has placed her. For this post however, the Bible does give us a clear understanding as to why we (as SAHMs) innately have a desire to care for our home and families.
Two direct verses/passages claim this to be true: Titus 2:3-5 and 1 Timothy 5:14.
Titus 2:3-5 "Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God
1 Timothy 5:14 "So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander."
Whatever you choose to do, women have this deep desire to help, care and nurture for her loved ones. So, it makes sense that we would want peace in our homes at a level that is met both physically and internally.

So how can we acquire a peaceful and organized home through our faith in Christ?
1.Begin with Prayer
This might seem like a no brainer, but if you’re not starting any project with a prayer first asking God to guide you and then to lead you. Obtaining a peaceful home for you, your spouse and kids, will be an uphill battle. Asking God to help you declutter and reorganize your home for the purpose of creating a safe and happy atmosphere for your family (which is what we are called to do) will be so much easier if we come to Him for in prayer first.

2.Declutter with Purpose
Okay, so now we get to the home organization portion. Do we throw it out or keep it? My rule of thumb is, if you haven’t used/worn this item in the last year, throw it out! Just throw it out girl.
Once you finish with sorting out the “keeps” and “throw aways,” consider your options in how you would like to dispose of the items you’ve labeled at throw away. For example, you could donate to a local shelter or charity, find a family in need at your church, or what I have found helpful the most, is to post it on your community Facebook group page. Write a description with your desire to help anyone in need or if someone knows of someone in need. Odds are there is someone who could use whatever you’ve decided to part with.
3.Create a Scripture-Centered Space
Just like every other room in your house has a purpose, creating a prayer/scripture center space within your home is vital for creating that peaceful atmosphere. This can be anywhere you choose. I myself designated my office closet as my personal nook to spend time with Jesus. I also have friends who have chosen, a movie room, outdoor patio, I’ve even heard of one person creating their laundry room as their prayer spot! Wherever you choose within your home, make it special. Lighting a candle, placing comfy pillows, or having just worship music playing. The important part is creating that routine and environment of safety. Somewhere to run to in time of need.

4.Organize for Sabbath Rest
So, let’s be honest. Sometimes life is really life-ing that week and odds are you might not be able to get any organization done within your home for some days. Let me highlight that God understands this! If He didn’t, then He wouldn’t be an omnipresent God. He sees our day to day struggles and knows our heart the best. Life gets going and even though our true intentions are there, things just might not get done.
If you find yourself in this position, remember that “the Sabbath day was created for man, not man for Sabbath”, Mark 2:27. It’s like if God knew what He was doing when He commanded us to uphold the Sabbath day as Holy. I know it’s hard to lay around and do nothing even when you’re dead tired. Give yourself some grace on the Sabbath and just let the house be lived in rather than control everyone and everything else. Its ok! Thankfully the week has a start date and Monday comes around soon enough.
If you can’t kick the itch, try reorganizing a small part of your home for example, the spices in your kitchen, your panty and bra drawer in the bedroom, or restock things around your home that won’t take a lot of brain power or energy.

Organizing for the Sabbath can look like doing nothing or preparing to just rest that day. Take care of only the immediate needs like food and clothes. Other than that, spend the day with your family either going out and doing something fun or staying home and resting.
5.Remember: It’s About Atmosphere, Not Aesthetics
The bottom-line friend is, it really doesn’t matter what your home organization looks like at the end of the day. Jesus repeatedly tells us, “For what shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul?” Mark 8:36. The things of this world are merely temporary; what truly matters are the eternal and intimate qualities of the heart, which inevitably shape how you relate to your husband and family. A safe and peaceful home begins with the condition of your own heart. “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16: 7
