“Turn off brain!”
Don’t you hate it when we wake up and our brains are already running through the “daily checklist” before our eyes even open. It’s as if our bodies rested but our brains never got the memo to shut down for the night. And if you’re a mama like me, your day begins at the crack of dawn whether you want to or not.

Thats why I strive on morning routines, I drink coffee, make a bottle ready for babies, take the dogs out to potty and get dressed for whatever errand needs to be run. All in the same way, everyday. Routines are a big deal in our house! Sure, there are days when I just “take the day off,” so to speak. And I throw everything out the window and have a lazy day. But for the most part routines take precedence in my daily life, including spending time with God.
By the way this is not a post on “how to have a perfect quiet time,” but just a template of how-to spend quiet time with the perfect God.
I hope that these eight morning routines essentials encourage you to spend with God but also give yourself some grace if you just can’t get to it that day.
It’s important to spend intentional time with Him regardless of what it looks like. The only way we can be mentally and spiritually prepared for the day is to spend quality time with Him through prayer, reading scripture and having a thankful heart.
Below is what my typical morning routines looks like as a busy Christian SAHM.
1. Wake up early
Give yourself the gift of waking up before the entire house. It’s hard at first but after a couple days, you will recognize the peace and welcoming atmosphere God gives you during those quiet hours that become intoxicating.
2. Set yourself up for success the night before
For me the less brain power the better, I prep my morning coffee the night before, prep my sons’ bottles, and set my Bible, reading glasses and pens up next to my nightstand or couch.

3. Start with a prayer
Before you even start reading the word, a simple or short prayer is a must. I know this will be hard, which is why I suggest moving to the sofa or office space. But opening up your alone time with a grateful heart really settles your mind into the right space to meet with God.
4.Read a Bible passage
This is really your choice, but if you need help getting started somewhere check out https://lovedndredeemed.com/2025/05/02/how-to-study-and-understand-the-bible-better-as-a-new-christian/ to get some ideas.
Another easy tip is to just read about whatever struggle or trial you might be going through! Like becoming a wife, going through a divorce/separation, or losing a loved one, etc.
5.Worship or listen to a Devotional
Another great way to just get your mind settled into the presence of God. Worship is such a powerful way to lift up your prayers in the form of singing when words are just not enough.
6.Reflect and journal
Write down what you just read, what you didn’t understand, or what you took away from scripture. Meditate on it and pray over it throughout the day. Here is a quick link to some of my favorite devotional journals.

7.Moment of silence
Just breathe in and breath out, believe that God has your back and will never leave you. He will sustain you with His steadfast love regardless of our circumstances. Just five minutes of being intentionally quiet and listen to God’s voice.
8.Take it outside
If all else fails, take it outside. Some days no matter how hard you try, it “just aint gonna happen.” On those days I just go outside with my boys and walk and talk it out with Him. Don’t get overwhelmed by the small stuff, He understands your current situation and is so graceful with us and our needs.
